English football currently has a cloud over its head as we head into the next round of fixtures in the Premier League- in which Arsenal takes on Everton.
A player who came through the Arsenal youth ranks, Fabrice Muamba is currently in a British hospital, recovering after a horrendous event in the FA Cup clash between Bolton and Spurs which left every fan shell shocked. Muamba might never be able to return to football. Arsenal’s thoughts are obviously with the young man.

Arsenal and Everton usually serve up brilliant contests. This season’s one however yielded only a single goal from of-course Robin Van Persie at the Emirates. Arsenal is currently at the top of the ‘form table’ with five wins from their previous five matches, four of which were achieved from losing positions. Van Persie has bagged seven strikes in those five matches.

Robin Van Persie’s interview for Arsenal’s official website clearly told everyone what was in their minds. If Arsenal could sustain this kind of form, they could win a trophy in the future. The captain himself admitted though that achieving that kind of consistency is extremely difficult.

At the moment, Arsenal currently occupies fourth spot in the table. A draw for them coupled with a loss for Spurs would see them jump to third on goal difference. Also, Arsenal has to look behind them as well as Chelsea sits only four points behind in fifth. Arsenal currently has 52 points, 18 less than leaders United.

In their previous league match, they took on Newcastle United. Arsenal played absolutely glorious, free-flowing football that day and the 2-1 victory with all respect to Newcastle was not a true reflection of the match. Arsenal missed plenty of glorious chances. They went behind to a Hatem Ben Arfa goal but equalized within a minute thanks to Van Persie.

They searched and searched for a winner but were unable to find it. Once again, just as against Liverpool, Arsenal won the match in injury time. In the last minute of injury time, Arsenal launched a counter-attack and scored via one of the unlikeliest players on the pitch, Thomas Vermaelen. Vermaelen has scored goals before; however, one doesn’t expect a defender to score a winning goal in a game even though Branislav Ivanovic achieved the feat recently.

As far as team news is concerned, Andre Santos has returned to the squad. Sebastien Squillaci has returned to training while Abou Diaby will feature for the reserves this week against Liverpool. Jack Wilshere is on the come-back trail and will be back next season if not at the end of this one. Francis Coquelin will return to the frame soon according to Arsene Wenger.

Expect Arsenal and a rejuvenated Tomas Rosicky to play stylish football again and try to overcome a stubborn and talented Everton side. Arsenal needs to keep their momentum going- which means they need three points for a sixth Premier League win in a row.

Do you think Arsenal will win? I would like to hear your thoughts.
