1) Who scored the first goal of the season?

How else to start but by recalling this moment which happened at Anfield? On Matchday 1 of the 2011/12 English Premier League, Liverpool hosted Sunderland. The Merseyside Reds were given the chance to take a seventh-minute lead through the penalty spot. This opportunity, however, went missing as striker Luis Suarez wasted it.

The Uruguayan later redeemed himself with a twelfth-minute strike which became the first goal of the 2011/12 English Premier League season. This will remind some people that Luis Suarez also makes the headlines for good reasons…

 

2) Who scored the fastest goal of the season?

This one goes to Robin van Persie. The sensational Dutch striker scored after only 26 seconds during Arsenal’s match against Sunderland on Matchday 8. The Gunners went on to win the match 2-1 in front of 60,078 fans at the Emirates Stadium.

3) What was the highest scoring match?

Gooners wouldn’t like to remember the answer to this question. One has to go back to Matchday 3 of the 2011/12 English Premier League season for that. In the highest scoring match, 10 goals were scored. Visitors Arsenal netted a couple of goals but the Red Devils converted 8 beautiful goals to carry the day.

4) Which team conceded the 20,000th Premier League goal?

Arsenal did. The Gunners’ defense went exposed when Marc Albrighton of Aston Villa netted a 54th minute strike. At that point in the game, the scoreboard read 1-1. Yossi Benayoun’s late winner spoiled the party for the Villans.

5) Which team had the longest winning record?

Manchester City; the Citizens went on a run of 7 consecutive wins. It all started at home to Everton on September 24. This record includes the 6-1 routing of Manchester United.

Manchester City; There’s almost a whole other half of the season to go. Can any team equal their 14-game unbeaten record?

7)Which coach won the most “Manager of the Month” awards?

Harry Redknapp did. The Tottenham Hotspur boss won the award at two separate occasions—in September and in November. He might as well win it for a third time during the course of the season.

8) Which club won the most “Player of the Month” awards?

The answer is Manchester City. Does this come as a surprise? The wealthy Citizens boast about possessing an all-star team. In August, Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko clinched the prize. The next month, Spanish midfielder David Silva claimed it. Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle United each have a single 2011/12 Player of the Month winner in their squad. Van Persie, Scott Parker and Demba Ba won the award in the following respective order: October, November and December.

9) Which match drew the highest attendance?Another big record. Man UTD 6-1 Man City

This record was set at Old Trafford on December 10, 2011. Thankfully for the home crowd, Manchester United put on a great show as they demolished Wolverhampton Wanderers. A reported number of 75,627 spectators saw this 5-goal game split 4-1. Wayne Rooney and Nani scored a brace each.      

10) Which team recorded the biggest away victory?

Actually, two teams did that. Manchester United achieved this feat when they defeated Bolton Wanderers (on September 10) and Fulham (on December 21) 5-0.

In between time, the Red Devils were victim of Manchester City’s historical result at Old Trafford. The Citizens humiliated their local rivals with a 6-1 victory away from the Etihad Stadium. 23 October 2011 is a date Alex Ferguson might never forget.
