Uniao Leiria vs Benfica Report
Benfica cantered to the top of the table in with a 4-0 trouncing of União de Leiria on Sunday night.
After Sporting and FC Porto had played out a goalless draw the previous night, the Eagles knew victory would put them two points clear at the summit of the Liga ZON Sagres.
A shaky first ten minutes suggested Benfica may feel the pressure, but Bruno César's fine strike from the edge of the box settled their nerves.
Cardozo came close to doubling the lead for Jorge Jesus' men in the remainder of the first forty-five minutes, but did so in spectacular fashion at the start of the second half. A fine through ball by Rodrigo was dispatched into the net with thunderous left-footed strike.
Rodrigo himself then got in on the act, scoring two goals in quick succession to the delight of Benfica's fans.
As well as rising to the top of the table, 13 goals in their last 3 matches and just one defeat in all competitions this season suggest Benfica are well placed to repeat their championship triumph of 2009/10.
