The Mexican team will begin their hectic summer games with a warmup clash against a well-known rival. Keep track of this clash with our guide.

It will be a busy summer for the Mexican National Team, and everything will kick off for Gerardo Martíno's men with a friendly match against Iceland at Arlington Stadium in Texas.

This will be Mexico's first game in America in almost a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced them to play friendly matches in European countries. Now, most restrictions over in the United States, Mexico returns to play a number of games in that territory to get themselves in gear for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the CONCACAF Nations League, which is set to take place next week.

As for Iceland, the team led by Arnar Vidarsson has only been able to win one of their last six games. During that streak, the Icelandic side ended up being relegated to League B in the UEFA Nations League, and their World Cup Qualifiers' campaign has also started on the wrong foot, losing two of their three games so far. This game will give their coach a chance to think things over ahead of some key games that could determine their fate in the FIFA World Cup and other upcoming tournaments.

For this game, Mexico's coach decided to call up some of their most talented players from Liga MX, excluding those who will play the title match this Sunday. The team's major absence will be that of striker Raúl Jiménez, who has been given the medical clearance to play games, but since he has been out of the game for almost six months, the decision to keep him out of this call up was made by El Tri's doctors in accordance to what Wolverhampton's medical staff had diagnosed. Either way, players such as Guillermo Ochoa, Henry Martín, and Eredivisie champion with Ajax Edson Álvarez will be part of the lot.

On the other hand, Iceland had to deal with a couple of issues when putting their squad together, as some MLS teams denied their permission to let Gudmundor Thorarinsson and Arnor Traustasson join the team, since the game will not take place on an international break. Hence, the weight of the team will be carried by Kolbein Sigborsson and captain Aron Gunnarsson.

This will not be the first game between Mexico and Iceland, as they have played four matches prior to Saturday's clash. Those four games have ended in two wins for Mexico and two draws, meaning that Iceland will still be looking for their first win against El Tri. Their last match concluded in a 3-0 win for Mexico in a friendly match that took place back in 2018.
