The UEFA Champions League returns with some interesting games involving Barca, Arsenal and Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Despite the fact that AVB’s Chelsea are carrying a painful 5-3 defeat on the back due to their defeat to Arsenal last weekend, they are expected to complete their double against Genk.
On Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League, the Blues cruised to victory. Fernando Torres grabbed a brace whereas Ivanovic, Bosingwa and Meireles added their name to the scoring sheet to seal Chelsea’s 5-0 win.
“We always played the ball backwards; we have to change that mentality. We saw all of Chelsea's qualities at Stamford Bridge,” Genk’s coach Mario Been told UEFA.com on Monday.
“After Saturday's game in the Belgian league, which we won 5-4, I think the feeling is very positive in the team so let's hope we can take this feeling with us into tomorrow's game. A draw or a win for us would be a great result and it would be a surprise.”
Andre Villas-Boas has vowed to maintain his attacking philosophy. Will the Blues be punished again for that as they were against Arsenal last Saturday?
Talking about Arsenal, they will welcome Olympique Marseille at the Emirates Stadium. In France, super-sub Aaron Ramsey shocked the hosts with an injury time winner.
The Gunners may be better prepared and, this time, they may not need such drama to secure all 3 points. Arsenal currently lead Group F by a point as they remain unbeaten in Europe.
Likewise, Spanish heavyweights Barcelona are yet to concede defeat in the UEFA Champions League. The titleholders were quite wasteful against Viktoria Plzen at the Camp Nou. They still managed, however, to stick together as a team and inscribe a win. Lionel Messi is fresh from scoring a hat-trick last weekend. He could be on target tonight as well.
In another intriguing fixture scheduled for a 7:45pm GMT kick-off, the Dragons of Portugal, FC Porto, will take on APOEL Nicosia. Remarkably, the underdogs of Cyprus are going into tonight’s game as Group G’s leaders.
Earlier in the day, Shakhtar Donetsk will be away to Zenit of Russia. The Ukrainians are currently at the bottom of Group G. However, only 2 points separate them from Zenit. Things are tight in this table, so expect Shakhtar to fancy their chances with great motivation tonight.
Simultaneously, AC Milan and BATE will lock horns at the Dinamo Stadion. The Rossoneri are poised to come away of this battle unscathed and thus create a 3-point gap over Barca in Group H before a ball gets kicked in Prague.
Champions League action will continue tomorrow with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Internazionale and Manchester United set to light up fireworks.
