Liverpool has climbed out of the hole they dug over the first half of the season and now are in a position to challenge for a top-four spot. The Reds sit fifth in the table just three points back of fourth place Tottenham. The club has put together a modest five-match undefeated streak in league play (3-1-0). A top four finish this season will give the Reds entry into next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea has been at or near the top of the Premier League table for most of the season. Their 3-0 win over Birmingham today, highlighted by a pair of goals by midfielder Frank Lampard, is the latest win in a string of ten consecutive matches without a loss. The Blues are 4-3-0 in the seven league matches over that period. Their last loss in any competition came in league play at Manchester City December 5th when they dropped a 2-1 decision.

Manchester City is also one of several clubs still in the hunt for a top-four spot. City has lost just three league matches this season, tied for the fewest losses in the Premiership. However, the club’s eight draws this season shares the distinction of the most stalemates in the league along with Everton and West Ham. Man City is coming off a disappointing 4-3 aggregate loss to rivals Manchester United in the semi finals of the Carling Cup.
