Despite netting 17 goals and producing 20 assists in 62 appearances under his Albiceleste belt, Lionel Messi’s international career is nowhere being brilliant in terms of general achievements. But whereas some still miss the thrill that legends such as Pele or Diego Maradona provided during their playing time, Spain's Carles Puyol remains loyal to his Barcelona team mate.

“He is the best player ever,” Puyol recently told El Mundo Deportivo.

“It’s hard to remember or imagine another like him.

“I know I’m not objective and that there are players from other eras, but nothing is comparable. He is from another planet.”

Lionel Messi is among Barcelona’s all-time top scorers and his individual talent—distinctive through his extraordinary dribbling—is the envy of many. “The best is Messi,” Neymar declared this week while analyzing his personal development as player. La Pulga is indeed a benchmark to other stars in world football and Chile coach Claudio Borghi believes that he is simply unstoppable.

“Nobody has the recipe [to stop Messi]. In every game, he scores goals and plays well,” Borghi explained during a pre-match interview.

“You can put a personal marker on him, play a three-man, four-man defence and you still cannot stop him.”

On Friday night, Lionel Messi will receive his 63rd cap for Argentina and the Albiceleste are hoping to kick-start their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign in style. However, the hosts can’t afford to take Chile’s potential for granted.

Borghi has warned that “This team has not lost the intention of always going out to look for three points, wherever we are. Chile have the conviction to achieve the victory [against Argentina in Buenos Aires].”

Argentina may need the trickery of Lionel Messi to tear the Chileans apart en route to their first 3 points of the 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign. For La Pulga, Argentina vs Chile could mean a brand new start under his number 10 Albiceleste shirt.

Lionel Messi has endured too many depressing moments with the national team. It’s time for him to transform into Argentina’s true hero and silence his critics for good.
