Arsenal has won three games on the bounce. The defence looks leaky even with the new players but things look to be improving.
Earlier in the week, Arsenal fans and management found out that Jack Wilshere, one of their standout players from the previous season will not be available until late January. With the signing of Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal midfield looks more lively. The midfield also has a stronger feel to it thanks to Emmanuel Frimpong.

Wilshere was the man of the match as Arsenal beat Barcelona, 2-1, last season. His absence will be missed as Wenger tries out Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey in different matches in midfield. Wilshere, who has the vision that Rosicky seemingly used to possess and perhaps still does, and a bit of physicality to his game would be a perfect fit in the Gunner’s midfield.

Arsenal took on Olympiacos in the Champions League in midweek. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain started the match and took the Emirates by storm. He scored early on and caused the Greeks plenty of trouble. Andre Santos, one of those flashy and brilliant Brazilians we find across Europe, scored a second.

Once again though, Arsenal failed to close the match out. Countless opportunities came Olympiacos’ way and the Greeks failed to take advantage. They scored once. The match went into half-time at 2-1. Arsenal searched for the third but failed to get it. This is where Wilshere might have helped.

He could have set up more opportunities for the Gunners to help them claim the third goal and claim victory. Arsene Wenger must surely have been at the edge of his seat for most of the second half. Mikel Arteta’s style and vision is very good. Having Wilshere in the side might have just added a bit more edge to the midfield than Arteta’s play allows.

Wilshere is also good for a tackle or two. With Alex Song fielded in defence, he would have been a perfect partner for Frimpong in defensive midfield. Jack Wilshere is a player whom many a side would like to have. His injury will not help the Gunners. However, considering that Arsenal can just about hold on to 2-0 or 2-1 leads, his absence might not hurt the Gunners too badly.

Arsenal has seemingly found a bit of form. The loss to Blackburn was the only one in which they were guilty of letting a lead slip courtesy of their own mistakes. Against Dortmund, they did defend well. The last few results of the club include a win over Swansea, a draw with Dortmund, a loss to Rovers and victories over Shrewsbury Town, Bolton and Olympiacos. That amounts to four wins in the last six games and just one loss.

What is more is Wilshere will return to the squad in a critical time of the season, namely January. At that time of the year, the injury list usually starts to get longer and longer. He might turn out to act like a new signing, namely a catalyst, in Arsenal’s challenge to finish in the top four in England. Antonio Valencia played a similar role when he returned from injury last season for Manchester United.

Arsenal needs to continue their good run of form. They play Tottenham on Sunday. If they win, fans and management shouldn’t be too worried about Wilshere’s return date.
