Final EPL verdict: All opening matches to go ahead except Spurs vs Everton
English Premier League football will not bow down to recent violence incidents in the UK. At the exception of Spurs vs Everton, all matches will go underway as planned.

White Hart Lane will not host any game on Saturday as Spurs vs Everton is the only match that has been called off.
On Thursday, Scudamore confirmed that Tottenham’s game against the Toffees won’t be played. The decision came after Premier League chiefs had discussions with England’s police. Later in the day, a statement from the Premier League gave the green light to this weekend’s other matches. It read:
“Following on-going discussions with the Metropolitan Police, statutory authorities and clubs in London, the Premier League can confirm that, aside from the postponed Tottenham Hotspur v Everton match, all League games in the capital will go ahead as scheduled this weekend.
“The Premier League has worked closely with the authorities and London-based clubs throughout the recent civil unrest to ensure matches are staged in accordance with supporter safety.
“While all efforts were made to try and facilitate the Tottenham Hotspur v Everton match by the Metropolitan Police and the local authority, the situation on the Tottenham High Road proved too difficult to overcome.
“The Premier League would like to thank the Metropolitan Police and all the other relevant police forces for their efforts and on-going communication during this difficult time.
“Acting on current information from the authorities there is no reason to believe that matches outside of London will be affected at this time.”
On Saturday, Blackburn Rovers will play at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers whereas Fulham will host Aston Villa. Elsewhere, Liverpool will kick-off their campaign with a match against Sunderland whereas Queens Park Rangers will start their Premier League adventure at home to Bolton.
Those matches, like Wigan Athletic vs Norwich City, will all take place simultaneously at 10:00am EST. In the late kick-off, Arsenal will affront Newcastle United at Saint James’ Park.
On Sunday, last season’s English Premier League runners-up Chelsea will entertain Stoke City away. But all eyes will be on reigning champions Manchester United who will start the defense of their title with a tricky fixture at West Bromwich Albion.
2011 FA Community Shield losers Manchester City will round up match-day 1 of the English Premier League with a fixture at Eastlands against Swansea City. Man City’s game will come up on Monday, August 15.
