Chicago Fire vs Manchester United will be highlighted by David de Gea’s role in post for the Red Devils.
Ex-Atletico Madrid star goalkeeper David de Gea has been one of Manchester United’s biggest transfer signings this summer. However, competition from Ben Amos and Anders Lindergaard—following Edwin van der Sar’s retirement—explain that De Gea’s place as Fergie’s number 1 choice is not yet cemented.

The young goalie will be given a great chance on Saturday to fight for his career at Old Trafford when Manchester United will face Chicago Fire in the USA.

“David de Gea will be the main choice [for Manchester United],” the Old Scot told reporters before quickly adding:

“But I have to say the other two goalkeepers probably think there is an opportunity there with Edwin van der Sar retiring. So it is an open door for me.

“De Gea will play in Chicago. But they will all get their share of games and then we will make a decision on who starts. We will have to see how De Gea settles.”

Meanwhile, veteran defender Gary Neville has backed David de Gea to take his chances as he carries a £18.9M price tag on his shoulders.

“It is just about getting off to a good start, gaining confidence, getting used to a different culture and generally settling in.

“So in terms of hitting the ground running it is important for him to get a good start and particularly so at a club like United where the pressure and the expectations are so high.

“But you look at him and he looks as though he has got a very good temperament. He is good with his feet and has played in red-hot atmospheres in Spain already so playing for United shouldn’t faze him.”
