In three years’ time, Brazil will be hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup. And whereas teams will be busy vying for a spot in the group stages of that tournament, the Seleçao won’t have any qualification encounter to worry about. Now as the hosts of the 2014 World Cup, Liverpool player Aurelio is hoping that Brazil will make the most of the 2011 Copa America.

“I think that the Copa America is viewed like the Euros here,” Aurelio told LFC Weekly.

“It’s very important for all national teams, but especially for Brazil, because we won’t have any qualifying game for the next World Cup because we are the hosts.”

“We won’t have so many opportunities to prepare for that tournament, so I think the Copa America will be a great opportunity to see how the team is fairing.

“People are already looking forward to the World Cup in 2014, but the Copa America is very exciting and I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Brazil are in Group B with one of the 2011 Copa America’s competition favorites Paraguay. But the Seleçao’s campaign will begin with a match against Venezuela on June 3. Brazil are in Argentina for the tournament since June 21. Aurelio is not part of the Mano Menezes' 23-man squad for the event.
