The battle is over for Owen Hargreaves, and he’s lost it. The crocked midfielder won’t be given a new contract by Manchester United according to The Sun.
Owen Hargreaves’s career at Old Trafford has been rather disappointing in terms of playing time. The ex-Bayern Munich player who landed at Manchester for £17M was expected to make a great impact on a permanent basis for the Red Devils. However, series of injuries have denied Hargreaves from being a regular in Fergie’s team rosters.

Statistics tell it all. The English man has made only 39 appearances since joining Manchester United 4 years ago. Among those 39, 34 came during his first season. On Monday, English news source The Sun quoted Coach Alex Ferguson as saying:

“This [ending Hargreaves’ spell at Old Trafford] has been a difficult decision—knowing how hard the lad has worked to win back his fitness.

“But, we’ve made it in the hope that he’ll be able to resurrect his career elsewhere.”

Owen Hargreaves’ contract is set to end in summer and he’ll eventually become a free agent. Which team could be interested in the crocked star’s services?

In other news, Manchester United are looking to fill the void caused by the expected departures of their veteran trio composed of Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. Ferguson stated last week that the Red Devils are looking at making “maybe three signings”. Latest transfer rumours suggest that Atletico’s David de Gea is set to land at Old Trafford soon as a couple more signings should be made before the start of next season.
