Ferguson could win yet another double this season as Manchester United have a chance of winning the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Barcelona. But Fergie’s not planning to retire after that.
Alex Ferguson’s love story with Manchester United has its beginnings dating from quite a long time; almost 25 years, to be precise. Yet, the Old Scot is not ready to put an end to it now.

Fergie believes that “retirement is for young people”. He certainly isn’t young, so he basically means that “retirement is not for Alex Ferguson”. Is the manager planning to reign as a king—meaning that only death will see him surrender his head-coach chair to a successor? This question could sound as “thinking out of the box”.

Either way, what we hear from Ferguson’s mouth is that only health problems may have the power to obstruct his 37-year career as a manager in World Football. At least, that is what the media understood as he told English news source The Sun on Thursday:

“I’ve got no plans to retire, I must say that... and my wife Cathy is delighted. She would have thrown me out!

“The salient point is that whilst my health is good, I carry on. You hear many stories of people who come off the treadmill and their system breaks down. I don’t want this to happen to me.”

But many other sports personalities view the status of success as the main point to decide the end of one’s career. For those, it is an urgent need to finish the business with a very last triumph—something to round up an entire memorable career. Is it necessary for Alex Ferguson to consider this aspect?

On May 28, there will be a re-match of the 2009 UEFA Champions League final—Barcelona vs Manchester United. Among multiple things that will be at stake is Ferguson’s chance to correct himself on the European fiasco he suffered in Rome two years ago.

If the Red Devils clinch victory at Wembley, many will feel it’s time for Fergie to end his career—and this, on such a high note. Others, meanwhile, will insist that there’s more to win and thus more years of coaching to experience and enjoy. What is your opinion on Alex Ferguson’s issue of retirement?
