Transfer News: Nuri Sahin Signed By Real Madrid Before Getafe Match
Barcelona’s domination in La Liga might have ended Real Madrid’s league title hopes. However, Los Blancos positively look ahead to the future with Nuri Sahin now in their bag.

Nuri Sahin has waved goodbye to Borussia Dortmund to try his luck at Real Madrid.
The completion of Nuri Sahin’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid was very much expected—especially since last week. On Monday, the Spanish giants officially declared on the club’s website that the Turkish player was now bound to Real Madrid where he is set to remain for 6 years.
Nuri Sahin has become the second player of Turkish origins to switch from the German Bundesliga to the Santiago Bernabeu. Last summer, Real Madrid signed Mesut Özil as Florentino Perez added Turkish flavour to his Spanish squad. Commentating on Los Blancos’ new capture on the market, sports director Miguel Pardeza revealed that Jose Mourinho was mainly behind it—only to somehow remind the public that Real Madrid had no intention of sacking the “Special One” despite the pressure from critics.
“Our coach decides on the team's tactics and he knows what the team needs. [Jose] Mourinho naturally played a big role in the transfer [of Nuri Sahin] because, at the end of the day, he is the one that chooses the line up.”
In his very first interview about his transfer from Real Madrid to Borussia Dortmund, the 22-year-old midfielder told the press:
“It was not easy to decide on leaving Borussia [Dortmund]. I like the club, I like the coach, and I feel comfortable in Dortmund.
“However, Real Madrid are one of the best teams in the world. To join Madrid means taking a huge step in my career. I didn’t choose Real Madrid because of money.
“I chose them because they are the greatest club in the world. It is impossible to say no to the history of this team and to its current project.
“Jose Mourinho immediately convinced me. We met here in Dortmund, one day. He is one of the best managers in the world and I am dying to work with him. This is going to be a great challenge.”
Nuri Sahin is fresh from a successful campaign with Borussia Dortmund. His 8 goals and 14 assists this season have helped Borussia claim the German Bundesliga title for the first time since 2002. Sahin has been tipped to succeed at Real Madrid with medals of the 2005 UEFA European U-17 and the 2008 Dutch Cup as a Feyenoord player in his trophy room.
In the meantime, Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid are back to business. The Spanish giants welcome Getafe on Tuesday after successfully bouncing back from their European semi-final exit thanks to a 6-2 hammering of Sevilla last weekend.
