Ferguson’s strong desire to maintain Manchester United’s supremacy in the English Premier League is seen by some as the result of “his obsession to bypass Liverpool’s incredible EPL title wins record”. Interestingly, Liverpool were winning their 18th and last English Premier League title back in 1990. And if only few tipped such a long league title drought to hit the Merseyside Reds, how many predicted an emphatic domination of Manchester United?

Remarkably, the Red Devils have clinched as much as 11 cups under Alex Ferguson since 1990—thus making a giant step from 7 vs 18 Premier League triumphs to a draw. Manchester United are now favourites to reach the 19 titles mark, but the issue of breaking Liverpool’s record is not the Red Devils’ concern according to Alex Ferguson:

“I don't think it is on our minds,” Fergie was quoted as saying by Inside United Magazine when quizzed on this matter.

“If we achieve it, it will be something great to reflect on. But at the moment, we know we have got some hard games left.”

Manchester United indeed have to affront Chelsea in one of their last 4 English Premier League matches. But the first of these mini-series is a crucial battle against Arsenal which comes up this weekend. Looking forward to a bright end, Ferguson expressed his belief in Manchester United’s current squad as he concluded:

“You just have to use your experience. Fortunately, I’ve got a team of staff who have been with me for a long time.

“The likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Edwin van der Sar... we have got enough experience to handle any situation on the pitch as well.”
