The Copa Libertadores champions will make their debut in the tournament against an up and coming Mexican side. Keep track of the game with this guide.

The FIFA Club World Cup enters its semi-final stage, and what better way to kick things off than watching two Latin American sides battling for a spot in the title clash.

On one hand, Palmeiras will make their debut in the competition after winning the 2020 Copa Libertadores title. The Verdao had previously played the Copa Intercontinental (the predecessor to the FIFA Club World Cup), but lost the clash against Manchester United. Palmeiras will become the eighth different team from Brazil to play in this competition, and they will be seeking to give that country their fifth Club World Cup crown after Corinthians (2000, 2012), Sao Paulo (2005), and Internacional (2006).

The other team playing this tie will be Liga MX's Tigres UANL, the most successful team in the Mexican top-flight for the past decade. The team from the North side of Mexico is also making their debut in the tournament after losing four CONCACAF Champions League finals. Led by André-Pierre Gignac, Los Tigres are eager to become the first Mexican team to reach the final of the competition and to improve the best finish for a CONCACAF side in the tournament, which has seen Northern American clubs finish 3rd in five different editions.

This will be the fifth game for Palmeiras against a Mexican side, and the first one that is not played in any stage of the Copa Libertadores. Previously, the green and white outfit played two-legged ties against Atlas and Xolos de Tijuana in the South American competition, and their record facing Mexican teams shows two wins (both against Atlas), one draw, and one loss against Xolos.

As for Tigres, the blue and yellow side will be facing their seventh game against Brazilian opposition. Previously, Tigres had played Copa Libertadores games against Sao Paulo, Corinthians, and Internacional. The 2020 CONCACAF CL champions have won three of those games, while the remaining three ended in defeat.

Both squad may have a full squad to choose from ahead of this game, with the only doubt being Tigres' midfielder Javier Aquino, who left the game against Ulsan Hyundai due to a knock to his head.
