The defending champions will host one of the league's resilient sides at Anfield in Saturday evening's fixture.

Match preview

Liverpool will have their eyes set on extending their winning run in all competitions to four when they welcome West Ham to Anfield on Saturday. The current Premier League title holders have started the season in the same manner they ended the previous one although they had what would have been a 100 percent unbeaten record stain by the shock defeat to Aston Villa.

The road has been far from smooth for the Reds who will now enter meetings with an injury crisis on their hands. But where they usually fall short in the fitness of squad members, the rest have often turned up to deliver the results. A win over West Ham will take the point tally of Liverpool to 16 while they hope to ascend the top spot for the first time this season.

For the Hammers, the mission will be to build on four brilliant results when they grace Anfield on Saturday. After suffering successive defeats against Newcastle and Arsenal, David Moyes' side hit their stride by securing a 4-0 win over Wolves before adding another 3-0 victory over Leicester.

They subsequently capitalised on the momentum to comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Tottenham Hotspur before almost making away with all the three points but for Phil Foden's equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend. Currently sitting 12th with eight points from six games, West Ham have proven to be a torn in the flesh of the Premier League's big names and, against Liverpool, they will be expected to give them a run for their money.

Team news: Liverpool vs West Ham

Virgil van Dijk remains a long-term absentee and is ruled out of action for Liverpool when West Ham come to town. Both Fabinho and Joel Matip are a doubt for the clash with the former limping off during the Champions League encounter with Midtjylland.

Also, the availability of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita also remain uncertain while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Tsimikas are completely ruled out.

West Ham, on the other hand, will not have the talismanic Michel Antonio in action with the attacker picking up a muscle injury in the draw with Manchester City.

Predicted starting XI

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Williams, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

West Ham United: Fabianski; Coufal, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Masuaku; Bowen, Rice, Soucek, Fornals; Haller
