The Three Lions are gearing up to host the Red Devils in their first home game of this UEFA Nations League campaign. Who’ll win this highly-anticipated showdown? Live Soccer TV's preview gives you match facts, team news, and global broadcast listings for England vs Belgium.

England vs Belgium – Preview

This is one of the most exciting games scheduled to take place in the UEFA Nations League this international break. England and Belgium will lock horns on Matchday 3 of the tournament in what is a repeat of the 2018 FIFA World Cup third-placed playoff. In fact, these two European giants faced off twice in Russia, the first of those two encounters coming in the group stage, with both match-ups ending in victories for the Red Devils.

Gareth Southgate will be aiming to get the better of Roberto Martinez this time around, however. Unfortunately, form does not favor the Three Lions. Despite reaching the semi-finals in the inaugural campaign where they would eventually lose to the Netherlands, the Three Lions have not begun this campaign in exciting fashion. Their opening game saw them travel to Iceland and would have come away from that fixture with a mere point had it not been for a 91st-minute goal from Raheem Sterling.

In their following, Harry Kane and Co. visited Denmark but it was yet another frustrating performance for England. This time, no added-time winner was scored and a goalless draw was how it ended. Belgium, on the other hand, have kicked things off in emphatic style. First was a 2-0 victory over Denmark in their opening game, a victory which they followed up on with a 5-1 thrashing of Iceland just three days later, with Batshuayi scoring twice.

It will also be interesting to see who Southgate fields for this encounter. Several English players have impressed as of late, including Grealish, Ings, and Calvert-Lewin. The Aston Villa, Southampton, and Everton men excelled in the recent win over Wales and will be hoping to feature in this big game.

Team news

England: Despite their impressive displays, Grealish, Ings, and Calvert-Lewin are all expected to return to the bench to make way for Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho. The latter of the three broke coronavirus regulations but should be available for this fixture. Similarly, Jordan Pickford could return to the lineup despite his poor displays for Everton this season. Harry Maguire, Eric Dier, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also tipped to return to the lineup.

Belgium: Martinez will be without Courtois who is unfit, with Mignolet all but destined to deputize. Thorgan Hazard is out while his superstar sibling Eden is unlikely to feature. Mertens is also sidelined for this crucial fixture.

Key stats

  • England have lost their last two encounters with Belgium but lost only one of their first 21 encounters (W15, D5).

  • The Three Lions have registered six consecutive clean sheets and are looking for a record-breaking seventh straight game without conceding.

  • Belgium are aiming to become the first team to beat England three times in a row since France from 2004 to 2010.

  • Southgate's men have enjoyed 19 victories from their last 20 competitive home games, losing only to Spain in September 2018.
