The semi-finals of the Euro 2020 Playoffs are upon us as 16 hopefuls aim to win four remaining tickets to UEFA's prestigious continental tournament.

The playoffs for the 2020 European Championship – it will take place in 2021 but UEFA opted against a name change – is upon. Four spots remain for the upcoming continental competition, with a total of 16 teams fighting for qualification. The playoff stage is split into two round: the semi-finals and the final.

The playoffs were initially scheduled to take place in the end of March but were pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The semi-finals were rescheduled for October 8 while the finals will be November 12. Here's everything you need to know about the Euro 2020 Playoff semi-finals.

What are the semi-final fixtures?

Thursday, October 8:

PATH A:

Bulgaria vs Hungary

Iceland vs Romania

PATH B:

Slovakia vs Ireland Republic

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Northern Ireland

PATH C:

Norway vs Serbia

Scotland vs Israel

PATH D:

Georgia vs Belarus

North Macedonia vs Kosovo

What are the Paths?

A Path is another name for bracket. There are four Paths: Path A, Path B, Patch C, and Path D. Each Path consists of four teams and will stage two of the eight semi-final fixtures, meaning each nation knows who they face in the penultimate round and who their possible opponents are for the final.

Each Path will stage one of the four finals and will offer one of the four remaining Euro 2020 tickets. For example, Bulgaria vs Hungary

Iceland vs Romania are two Path A semi-final fixtures. The winners will move on to the Path A final where they will battle it out for a spot in next year's tournament.

Headline Match of the Euro 2020 Playoff semi-finals: Norway vs Serbia

Both sides have not qualified for the European Championship since 2000 and will be keen on ending their long wait. Norway and Serbia should head into this tie with confidence, with the Scandinavian side having lost only once in 10 qualifying matches and Ljubisa Tumbakovic's crew finishing only three points behind Portugal in their group. Boasting the likes of Joshua King, Erling Haaland, and Alexander Sorloth up front, Norway will fancy their odds of scoring. Furthermore, they have suffered only three defeats in their last 22 matches. One the flip side, the Serbs boast their own hot-shot striker in the form of Mitrovic, having scored twice in four games in the EPL this season and 12 times in his last nine international appearances.

Key talking point: Scotland rocked with injuries and coronavirus ahead of Israel showdown

Scotland are preparing to face Israel in their playoff but they have unfortunately been rocked with injuries and a coronavirus case. Defenders Scott McKenna and Liam Palmer, and attacker Oliver Burke will not be available for the Tartan Terriers' upcoming three fixtures. On top of that, it was confirmed that Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong has tested positive for COVID-19 and will thus play no part in this tie. Making things worse, it was also determined by the Scottish FA that Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie were in close contact with the Saints ace and must self-isolate for 14 days, ruling them out for the entire international break. Can Steve Clarke's men cope without them? Tune in to find out.
