The Bundesliga is back with a bang, and Borussia Dortmund will be facing bitter rivals Schalke in a much awaited Revierderby.

Preview: BVB vs Schalke

The Bundesliga experienced an abrupt interruption due to COVID-19, which rapidly spread from Wuhan, China to Europe and elsewhere, killing tens of thousands and turning life upside down for many more. However, after a two month pause as authorities attempted to halt the rapid spread of this deadly contagion, the league resumes action this weekend, and one of the highlights will surely be bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund taking on Schalke in another installment of the Revierderby.

When the league halted, Borussia Dormtund found themselves in second place, just four points behind Bayern Munich. Die Schwarzgelben have had a solid domestic campaign so far, but will certainly want to end Bayern's reign as the top side in Germany once and for all. They came painfully close last season, but were unable to get over that final hurdle as Bayern pipped them to the title on the final matchday.

Saturday's hosts have already lost one Klassiker of the season - a 4-0 drubbing by die Roten in November - and so will need to pick up maximum points the next time the two sides meet in just two weeks' time. But for now, their focus will firmly be on defeating Schalke, who despite failing to win their last seven games find themselves in sixth place heading into this match.

Sixth is a significant improvement for die Königsblauen, who finished last term in a disappointing 14th spot. Although they are the rank underdogs here, Dortmund will be coming into this game with a bunch of players out due to injury. Furthermore, they will be playing in a virtually empty stadium due to the new measures that have come into place as a result of COVID-19. That means the famous "Yellow Wall" won't be in full force to intimidate the visitors, and could give Schalke that extra boost of confidence as they will be playing for more than just three points in this game - pride will be at stake as well.

Team news: BVB vs Schalke

Dortmund: Emre Can, Axel Witsel and Nico Schulz are all set to miss this upcoming Ruhr derby due to muscle issues. Meanwhile, skipper Marco Reus's long-documented injury problems have flared up again and he continues his difficult recovery from another injury setback. In addition, Dan-Axel Zagadou is out with a knee injury that will likely keep him on the sidelines until the end of this season.

Schalke: Omar Mascarell is out for the rest of the season due to an adductor tear. The same applies to Ozan Kabak, who suffered a back injury, and he also may miss the remainder of the campaign. Meanwhile, defenders Benjamin Stambouli and Salif Sané are in doubt for this fixture due to prior injuries, but Sané may be fit enough to make the bench.
