Liverpool can’t afford to feel the heat caused by Steven Gerrard’s injury, or they’ll end up in a total mess. The captain has been ruled out for the rest of the season, but the Reds must move on.
It’s important for Liverpool to earn a top-five finish in the English Premier League. There would be a reason to call anything less than such an achievement a failure. As Kenny Dalglish has set his target on European football, he is resolute to avoid being blown away by Steven Gerrard’s loss:

“It would be wrong for us to mislead anyone at this stage. It's a blow to have anybody out but we just have to get on with it,” Kenny told The Sun.

“Without any disrespect to the players who are injured, the most important ones are the ones who are fit because they are the ones who can be picked.”

Also sidelined are defenders Martin Kelly and Glen Johnson, but striker Andy Carroll has not giving up hope. As the Reds prepare to face Manchester City in a crucial encounter on Monday, the forward told ESPN Soccernet:

“All of the lads are still confident that we can get into fifth and get there [in Europe]. We just need a slip up to go for us and we need to keep working hard and getting three points week in, week out.

“We're looking forward to the next game against Manchester City now and putting West Bromwich behind us.”

Following their shock 2-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion last weekend, Liverpool are sixth in the English Premier League standings with only 45 points from 31 matches. Closest rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have 55 and 50 points respectively despite having played a game less than the Merseyside Reds.
