Tottenham beat Brighton 2-1 thanks to an exquisite strike from the in-form Englishman.

Tottenham kicked off the Boxing Day action in the Premier League, with their clash with Brighton being the earliest game on Thursday. Spurs put behind their 2-0 loss at home to Chelsea last weekend to come away with all three points but it wasn’t an easy victory.

Despite boasting the home advantage, the north London giants found themselves trailing 1-0 after only 37 minutes. Things remained like this until half-time, with Harry Kane finding the back of the net for the second time – his first effort was ruled out for offside – to draw things level in the 53rd minute.

However, Mourinho’s men were not playing for a point and were thus in search of the winner. They found it in the 72nd minute courtesy of Dele Alli, with the in-form Englishman securing Tottenham all three points with an exquisite finish. Check it out in the tweet below (video might be geo-restricted).

The strike from Alli also helped maintain Jose’s impressive record on Boxing Day. The Special One holds the record for most games on this special day without a defeat, having been in charge of eight matches on the day after Christmas without suffering a single loss.

Despite this, it is unlikely Jose is happy with the overall performance. Alli is in scintillating form, scoring five times in seven appearances under Mourinho, but the team’s defense has been shambolic. Since taking over in north London, no team has conceded more goals than Jose’s Spurs side (15), level with Arsenal at the time of writing this article.
