Manchester United will look to take advantage of Watford's awful form as they continue their pursuit of a top four spot when they travel to the struggling side's home ground on Sunday.

Preview: Watford vs Manchester United

Watford come into this game in awful form, to say the least. The Hornets sit at the bottom of the Premier League table and haven't won a home match since April. They have lost four of their last five matches and with Southampton winning their most recent tie, are now nine points from safety, but have a game in hand with this match coming up. Even if they could pull off what would be a surprise upset against Manchester United, Watford would still have a long ways to go in order to pull themselves out of the bottom three as they will be six points from 17th place.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will be seeking to make this a seventh game sans defeat. Despite their ups and downs, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer receiving his fair share of criticism, the Red Devils are actually within touching distance of a top four berth. They currently sit in eighth place, four points behind Chelsea, who face a very tricky clash against a Tottenham side now led by Jose Mourinho, and a win here could see them move closer towards the Champions League places.

Sitting behind teams like Sheffield United, who have been on a kick lately, certainly will not sit well with Manchester United fans, but the Premier League campaign is long, and if the Red Devils can start to string a series of wins together, they, too, could see themselves really starting to work their way up the standings as well.

To that end, they will certainly take advantage of Watford's woes and pick up all three points here. Next up for them will be clashes against Newcastle and Burnley, two teams who are just behind the Red Devils in the table, and teams that obviously Solskjaer will be keen on getting maximum points against. This match against Watford will present the perfect jumping off point to achieve those objectives and create some positive momentum as Manchester United gears up for a very hectic fixture list to wrap up 2019.
