One of these teams will become World Champions for the first time ever. Will the trophy end up in Europe or in South America?

What is Liverpool and Flamengo's form ahead of this game?

Liverpool's form has to be divided in two, since the first team has been impressive all season. The Reds have won 20 games in a row with the first team -or most of it- on the pitch, but prior to Wednesday's clash, the Reds' "B" team lost in the Carabao Cup Quarter finals against Aston Villa.

On the other side of the pitch, Flamengo will make it to the FIFA CWC final after losing a 29-game streak without a defeat, which concluded against Santos a few days before their trip to Qatar. During that run, Jorge Jesus' men drew five of those clashes, which instantly makes them one of the biggest threats to Liverpool's attempts to become World Champions.

How did Liverpool and Flamengo get to the FIFA Club World Cup final?

Liverpool made it to this competition by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. In the proper competition, the Reds made it to the title clash thanks to a late goal by Roberto Firmino that saw Klopp's men defeat Monterrey 2-1.

Flamengo's famous Copa Libertadores title earned them a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup just a few weeks ago, and they lived up to their reputation by defeating Al-Hilal with a 3-1 score. The Brazilian side came from behind thanks to goals by Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique and an own goal by Ali Hadi Al-Bulaihi, which canceled the opening goal scored by Muhamed Al-Dawsari.

Liverpool vs Flamengo - Head-to-head stats

  • Flamengo defeated Liverpool in the only prior meeting between these teams. The Brazilian side took home the Intercontinental Cup against the Reds back in 1981 with a 3-0 score.

  • Liverpool's last Club World Cup appearance ended in defeat against Sao Paulo in the 2005 edition. The Reds concluded that tournament in second place.

  • This is Flamengo's first FIFA Club World Cup Final appearance.

  • Liverpool will try to become the second English team to win the FIFA Club World Cup after Manchester United did so in 2008.

  • Flamengo will be looking to join Corinthians, Sao Paulo and Internacional as Brazilian teams that have won this tournament. Corinthians won it twice, in 2000 and 2012.

  • Liverpool will aim to keep Europe's dominance in this competition, since the last seven FIFA CWC titles have been won by UEFA teams (Bayern in 2013, Barcelona in 2015, and Real Madrid in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
