Fiorentina may have made some interesting signings, including veteran Franck Ribery and managed to keep promising talent Frederico Chiesa locked down at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for another season, but so far, the Viola haven't taken off just yet. The Tuscan outfit did put on a solid showing against Napoli in their season opener, battling bravely against Carlo Ancelotti's side but ultimately came up short as the Partenopei triumphed in a seven goal thriller.
Napoli did finish as runners up to Juventus last term and are viewed as among one of the strongest sides in Italy, so the fact that Fiorentina did give the Partenopei a tough battle shows how far they've come - especially considering that the Gigliati were battling relegation at one point last season. However, they'll be bitterly disappointed that they couldn't pick up all three points against a smaller team like Genoa. And now, on matchday three, they will have to face Juventus, a team who they don't have a great record against. In fact, Fiorentina have won just two of their last 17 home meetings against the Bianconeri and have lost their two most recent clashes at the Stadio Artemio Franchi versus La Vecchia Signora without scoring.
Not promising reading whatsoever for a team still seeking their first win. Fiorentina: New signing Franck Ribery could feature in the starting XI for the first time since arriving on a free transfer from Bayern Munich this summer. Youngster Bobby Duncan, who was acquired from Liverpool, will be eager to get involved but given this is such a high-profile game it will remain to be seen whether Vincenzo Montella will consider playing a young player against the reigning champions or feature him against a smaller side for him to gain more confidence.
Juventus: Skipper Giorgio Chiellini will be out for the next few months following knee surgery. In addition, the visitors will have to make do without new signing Aaron Ramsey who continues to recover from injury as well as back-up goalkeeper Mattia Perin and defender Mattia De Sciglio.
With the Champions League around the corner, Maurizio Sarri could opt to rotate his squad as well.
