English giants Liverpool and Chelsea lock horns in the UEFA Super Cup. Who will come out on top? Live Soccer TV's match preview provides match facts, team news, and global broadcast listings for Liverpool vs Chelsea.

Preview: Liverpool vs. Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea have had contrasting fortunes coming into this tournament. The Reds had a mixed pre-season, but quickly put that behind them as they commenced their Premier League campaign off excellently, thrashing newly promoted Norwich 4-1 to secure a place alongside Tottenham, Manchester City, and Manchester United on top of the table. However, the win came at a high cost, as they will be without the services of a star player not just for this upcoming game against another big six rival.

Chelsea, by contrast, were mostly unbeaten in pre-season - save for a surprise loss to local Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale - but Frank Lampard had a nightmare debut as his team were humiliated 4-0 by Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford. Lampard will be desperate to see an improved performance from his team after a poor showing this past weekend.

With the transfer ban, Chelsea are in a quagmire as they can't sign any additional new players. That means that Lampard is forced to rely on a crop of younger faces - with the likes of Tammy Abraham being given the no. 9 jersey - and that puts the Blues at a disadvantage in comparison to other big six teams like Liverpool and Manchester City to some extent.

Team news: Liverpool vs. Chelsea

Liverpool: With star shot-stopper Alisson Becker out, Liverpool now will have to rely on the no. 2 man between the posts for the interim, ex-West Ham man Adrian. In addition to Alisson, Nathaniel Clyne is still out due to a long-term injury.

Chelsea: N'Golo Kante returned to the fold against Manchester United, but isn't likely to feature here as he's still not 100 per cent recovered. However, Antonio Rudiger, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Callum Hudson-Odoi are still on the treatment table. And Willian may feature, but isn't a definite contender despite returning to light training.

  • Not surprisingly, perhaps, Spain are the country with the most winners - 15

  • ....since then it's become a Spanish-dominated affair, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid all winning it

Talking points: Liverpool vs. Chelsea

Liverpool: A major worry for the Reds is the absence of Alisson Becker. The Brazilian star suffered a calf injury during his team's 4-1 thrashing of newly promoted Norwich and now is set to be on the sidelines for quite some time as Liverpool aim to remain strong on multiple fronts this term. Can Adrian step up and marshall the team from the back?

Chelsea: How will they rebound after their humiliation at Old Trafford? The UEFA Super Cup will present the perfect opportunity, and provide debut Premier League coach Lampard's young side with the spot of confidence they will need ahead of what's going to be a tricky season. But will they be able to get it done against the Champions League winners?
