Despite some off the pitch drama surrounding one of their star players, PSG will look to begin their title defense off with a bang as they take on Nimes.

The reigning champs come into this game having won the French Super Cup at the expense of Rennes and they'll be looking to commence proceedings with a bang as they welcome Nimes to the Parc des Princes. Their upcoming opponents finished solidly in mid table last term - ninth spot to be exact - which is not bad considering they haven't been in the top tier for too long; in fact, they were only promoted as recently as 2018.

Nimes lost a lot of key players last summer after their impressive campaign, including Denis Bouanga, Sada Thioub, Umut Bozok and Rachid Alioui, as well as Teji Savanier. However, they've been really busy in the transfer market to refurbish the team, bringing in the likes of Zinedine Ferhat, Romain Philippoteaux, Pablo Martinez, Sidy Sarr, Haris Duljevic, and Vlatko Stojanovski.

While hopes are high, they face a rather unwanted trip to taking on the top side in France, who beat them both home and away last term. Not exactly the way any team would want to commence their new season, and they'll hope their hosts will be distracted with the whole Neymar drama that looms around the Parc des Princes.

Naturally, it's all about Neymar. With a move expected away from the Parc des Princes, the Brazilian international's absence has cast an unwanted shadow around the club. He isn't expected to feature here officially due to an injury sustained before this summer's Copa America tournament, but as we all know, has been at loggerheads with the club to force a move out of Paris before the end of the summer transfer window.
