Team news

Arquimedes Figuera, having ruptured knee ligament, has been ruled out of the competition. Other than the midfielder's absence, Venezuela should have a full squad for Friday's showdown.

As for Argentina, questions linger over Scaloni's strongest lineup. Sadly for La Albiceleste, the manager does not appear to have the answer, having made changes to his starting eleven in each of their first three games.

Lautaro Martinez and Sergio Aguero both scored in the 2-0 win over Qatar and will likely start once again, with Messi tipped to play behind the two forwards in a playmaker role. Marcos Acuna could replace Rodrigo De Paul while Juan Foyth has been linked with the right-back role.

Preview

A clash with awaits the winner of this quarter-final, but while a showdown between Argentina and the five-time World Cup champions, Messi and Co. are not guaranteed to progress.

La Albiceleste have been nothing but convincing so far. Their horrendous display against Colombia saw them lose 2-0 while a slightly better but still disappointing performance against Paraguay saw them draw 1-1.

Against Qatar, Messi and Co. put showed more urgency in attack but showed instability nonetheless. However, Argentina will be looking to build on that win and turn things around.

Leo opened his goalscoring account in the draw with Paraguay but is yet to show his true capabilities at Brazil 2019. Should he hit fifth gear, however, Argentina will be looking at a showdown with the Selecao.
