Group D featuring Japan, England, Argentina, and Scotland gets underway for matchday two as Japan face Scotland and England take on Argentina. Live Soccer TV's match preview provides team news, match facts, and global broadcast listings for Japan vs. Scotland and England vs. Argentina.

Current form: Japan vs. Scotland

Although Japan finished as runners-up at the 2015 edition, they have hardly looked impressive so far. Surprisingly, they ended up firing blanks in a scoreless stalemate with Argentina - a team they had beaten twice before - which was a disappointing outcome as they were expected to pick up all three points from that clash.

Japan's form, though, has not been as strong as their fans will like. Heading into this tournament, although they did earn consecutive draws against Germany and Spain in their pre-competition friendlies, overall, the winners of the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup have struggled so far in 2019. In fact, Nadeshiko Japan have won just one of their seven fixtures this year, when they beat Brazil 3-1 at the SheBelieves Cup, while drawing  four and losing back to back games against England and France.

Meanwhile, Scotland did not have the best start to their first ever World Cup, as they lost 2-1 to England on matchday one. Prior to that, the debutants were in excellent form, as they were unbeaten in their last four games. That included victories over Brazil, Denmark, and Jamaica, and during qualifying for this tournament, they won seven of their eight ties.

Match facts and stats: Japan vs. Scotland

Team news: Japan vs. Scotland

Japan: No injuries or suspensions, but three players - Risa Shimizu, Mana Iwabuchi, and Hina Sugita - will all have to be careful not to pick up another yellow card here in order not to miss their final group stage game against England.

Scotland: Likewise, Scotland has no new injuries or suspensions. However, both Jennifer Beattie and Nicola Docherty will have to be cautious not to earn another yellow so as not to be ineligible for the last group stage match against Argentina.

Current form: England vs. Argentina

England come into this game having secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Scotland in a highly anticipated derby clash. The Three Lionesses will be seeking to secure their spot in the next round at the expense of Argentina, who managed to surprise 2015 World Cup runners-up Japan by holding them to a scoreless draw.

Overall, England have been in solid form since the start of the year. They have lost just two of their last eight games, both by 1-0 scorelines to Canada and New Zealand. Impressively, they held the USWNT to a 2-2 draw in the SheBelieves Cup to topple the Stars and Stripes as reigning champions; as a result, England clinched their first ever title.

As for Argentina, well, it's been hardly smooth sailing for them. So far, the South American side, who earned a ticket to this summer's tournament via an intercontinental play-off, have won just one of their five matches played in 2019. While they will be happy with the point earned against Japan, they are expected to be the underdogs in their next clash with England. Certainly, they will again try to frustrate their opponents to likely secure another draw as they will fancy their chances against debutants Scotland on matchday three.

Match facts and stats: England vs. Argentina

  • This will be the second meeting between England and Argentina
  • The first was at the 2007 World Cup, during which England crushed Argentina by a 6-1 score-line

Team news: England vs. Argentina

England: Both Toni Duggan and Millie Bright are in doubt for this fixture. Duggan missed matchday one due to an injury, while Bright had to be subbed out against Scotland following a fall that injured her shoulder, but she could potentially return for this game.

Argentina: No injury or suspension concerns.
