The Red Devils were forced to exhaust all their substitutions in Sunday afternoon's blockbuster clash.

The drama that usually takes center stage in clashes between Manchester United and Liverpool is not exactly the kind that unfolded in Sunday afternoon's match up. What was marked to be a boot-for-boot affair was rather marred by four injuries in the first 45 minutes with the Red Devils feeling the effect the most.

Having already lost Nemanja Matic and Antony Martial to injuries ahead of the fixture, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was called to make quick amends to his set-up after Ander Herrera picked up a knock in the 21st minute. The in-form Spanish midfielder who has played an integral role in the success enjoyed under the Norwegian interim boss was subsequently replace by Andreas Pereira.

Four minutes later, Juan Mata was also spotted limping and was immediately ejected to make way for injury-returnee Jesse Lingard. However, the Englishman could only for 18 minutes as he picked up a knock a few minutes after almost he almost rounded Allison to give Manchester United the lead.

The 26-year-old winger's fate made him the first player since Kevin Long in 2015 (in Burnley vs Newcastle) to be substituted on and off in the first half of a Premier League match.

In between Manchester United's misfortunes, Liverpool's Roberto Firmino was also forced off with an injury. Daniel Sturridge replaced the Brazilian striker in the 31st minute.
