A look at the players' monthly wages reveals that the Argentine earns more than the second and third stars on the list combined.

L'Equipe has released a list of footballers top earners, and to little surprise, Lionel Messi has been crowned as the Europe's highest-paid footballer. The Argentine's monthly wages before tax beat out the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Griezmann, who came in second and third.

According to the French magazine, the 31-year-old icon pockets $9.5M every month, which is more than what Ronaldo and Antoine earn combined. Leo is one of five Spanish Primera Division stars to feature in the top 10 while only one Serie A name makes the cut.

That Italian top-flight man is Cristiano, who finishes behind Messi on $5.3M per month. This means the Juventus superstar trails his former Liga rival by over $4M in wages.

Griezmann beat out Neymar to complete the top three thanks to his monthly earnings of $3.7M, which he earned after committing his future to Atletico with a new deal back in June 2018. As for the world-most expensive players, he is paid a respectable $3.5M every four weeks by PSG.

The Brazilian superstar is one of two Ligue 1 stars to feature in the top 10, with PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe being the other. The French World Cup winner comes in at ninth with an earning of $2M.

As for the Premier League, only two names make the cut. One is Alexis Sanchez, the English top-flight's highest earner who comes in at eighth with $2.58M. The other is Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, who despite his struggles with new manager Unai Emery, still earns a generous $1.8M per month to come in at 10th.

Other names to make the list are Luis Suarez (5th) on $3.3M, Gareth Bale (6th) on $2.8M, and Philippe Coutinho (7th) on $2.6M.
