The Merseysiders began their Premier League campaign with a bang.

Liverpool brushed aside the challenge of West Ham by putting four goals past their visitors. The comfortable cruise started with Mohamed Salah opening the scoring by tapping home a low cross by Andre Robertson.

Sadio Mane yet again proved to be a torn in the flesh of the Hammers by grabbing two goals, taking his involvement in his last three games against the Londoners to six (3 goals and 3 assists).

The Senegalese subsequently became the first Liverpool player to get on the scoresheet in three successive opening top-flight games since John Barnes. The latter did so between 1989-90 and 1991-92.

In addition, Daniel Sturridge put the icing on the emphatic victory by scoring with his first touch just 24 seconds after coming on to replace Mohammed Salah in the 87th-minute. His strike made Liverpool the only second side in the history of the Premier League to score four or more goals in four consecutive games against the same opponent, after Tottenham v Stoke.

The Reds, who momentarily sits atop the league log, have now managed 500 overall wins in the English Premier League's history.
