The Frenchman has come clean on why he stepped up to take the penalty against Leicester City.

Paul Pogba has explained that he went ahead and took the penalty in Manchester United's win over Leicester City because his side does not have a designated penalty taker. The World Cup winner opened the scoring for the whole 2018/2019 Premier League campaign by making no error of his spot-kick which resulted from a handball by the Foxes' Daniel Amartey.

However, before stepping up to put the ball past Kasper Schmeichel, Pogba was seen in a short dialogue with teammate Alexis Sanchez, clearly deliberating on who should take the penalty. In a post-match interview with Sky Sport, the midfielder revealed that his hesitation to pass on the ball was nothing to raise concerns as he might decide to hand over the favor to the Chilean another time.

"We don't have a penalty taker, it's how we feel and I decided to take it. Maybe on the next game, I will leave it to Alexis," Pogba asserted.

The former Juventus player further commended his new midfield partner Fred for impressing on his Premier League debut.

"Fred is a very good player, he will help us. I feel comfortable with him and I hope it can continue throughout the season."
