The German was given the captain's armband in their huge victory over the Ligue 1 champion.

Mesut Ozil may have been at the center of an unfortunate DFB scandal, but that has done little to tarnish his name. In fact, the former German international has millions of fans behind him, one being the referee for Arsenal's recent International Champions Cup tie.

The north London side is currently in Singapore for their pre-season and faced PSG in preparation for the upcoming campaign. The match official for that game was excited to meet the playmaker and asked him for an autograph in the tunnel before the game kicked off.

The "Assist King" gladly accepted his request but resorted to an unusual method of handing out his autograph. As the referee had no memorabilia or paper to sign, Ozil penned his signature on the official's yellow card before stepping out at the National Stadium, Singapore.

The 29-year-old was shown a great sign of faith by Unai Emery after his row with the national side by being given the captaincy for Saturday's game. Shortly after retiring from Germany due to "racism" and "disrespect", he captained the Gunners to a 5-1 thrashing of the Ligue 1 champion.

It was none other than the midfielder who broke the deadlock, scoring in the opening 13 minutes. A quick-fire brace from Alexander Lacazette was followed by goals from Holding Nketiah to complete the huge victory against Thomas Tuchel's youthful squad.
