From world champions in 2014 to massive flops in 2018, that's how you could describe Die Mannschaft's performance in this year's tournament.

We have discussed in detail which players dazzled the world in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, but now it's time to talk about those who couldn't bring their A-game to the competition.

With all 64 games over, French publication L'Equipe took the task of putting together the unflattering list of players that failed to impress the most while in Russia. Unsurprisingly, Germany and Poland dominated this lineup, since both teams arrived to the competition with high hopes and ended their performance in disappointing fashion.

This list includes household names such as Mesut Özil, Thomas Müller and Sami Khedira, all of them key to Die Mannschaft's successful campaign in 2014. Added to their names, Argentina's goalkeeper Willy Caballero joined them as one of the worst shot-stoppers of the competition, mainly due to his dubious performances against Iceland and Croatia.

Here is L'Equipe's 2018 FIFA World Cup Worst XI:

Goalkeeper: Willy Caballero (Argentina)

Defenders: Lukasz Piszczek (Poland), Edson Alvarez (México), Oscar Duarte (Costa Rica), Maciej Rybus (Poland).

Midfielders: Jacek Góralski (Poland), Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil (Germany).

Strikers: Thomas Müller (Germany), Pione Sisto (Denmark), Kelechi Iheanacho (Nigeria).
