English fans got excited about their chances when they saw which side of the bracket they were drawn into after the first stage of the competition, but their performance during the KO games and the recently concluded third-place match was baffling, to say the least.
The Three Lions finished the competition with the lowest amount of shots on goal per 90 minutes from open play with nine, becoming the second worst side in front of goal. Only Iran managed to get less shot on goal than the English side, and they played four games less than Southgate's men.
In order to give you a better idea of what happened, players such as Jamie Vardy, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling failed to get a single goal, leaving it all for Harry Kane to solve, which didn't really happen in the last three games.
Harry Kane has attempted seven shots at the #WorldCup knockout stages (excl. pen shoot-outs):

It was an inadvertent deflection off his heel.
He's going to win the Golden Boot.
