It’s was a tough start to affairs for Brazil in their quarter-final clash with Belgium. For the first time in 26 games, the Seleccao conceded twice and had both coming inside the first 45 minutes.

Belgium, somewhat fortuitously took the lead after a Nacer Chadli corner kick was met in the air by Vincent Kompany which subsequently went off the back of Brazil’s Fernandinho. The own-goal, per the South American’s football history, was the second ever conceded at the World Cup.

The first of its kind was scored by Marcelo in the 2014 World Cup group stage clash against Croatia. Belgium consequently doubled up their lead via a Kevin De Bruyne trademark shot from the edge of the penalty area with 14 minutes to end the first-half.
