The French prodigy has refuted claims that he’s in the same league as the legendary Brazilian.

Kylian Mbappe once again stole the spotlight as France sent Lionel Messi and the rest of the Argentina squad packing out of Russia on Saturday. The teenager struck twice in Le Bleus' 4-3 victory which subsequently eanred him the Man of the Match accolade.

Having become the first teenager since Pele in 1958 to score at least two goals in a World Cup match as a result, Mbappe attracted comparison with the distinguished Brazilian. However, the 19-year-old - although cajoled - was quick to squash the assessment.

"It's flattering to be the second one after Pele but let's put things into context - Pele is in another category," he stated at the post-match press conference.

"But it is good to be amongst these people and to score in knockout matches.

"At a World Cup, you have all the top level players so it is an opportunity to show what you can do and what your abilities are."
