The Portuguese ace put to rest theories about his decision to grow a goatee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After all sorts of theories emerged regarding his new goatee, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to put all rumors to rest and came clean about why he chose to sport a new look during the FIFA World Cup.

Speaking with the sponsor that gives out the Man of the Match awards, Cristiano Ronaldo shared the real reason for his goatee look, and even named who's to blame for that decision.

"This goatee? It's a joke I had with Quaresma. We were in the sauna, I started to shave and I left the goatee. Then I said 'if I score tomorrow(against Spain) I'll leave it for the rest of the tournament. It gave me luck, I scored in that game, I scored in this one, so it stays," CR7 said.

His celebration after scoring a penalty kick against Spain sparked controversy, as some thought he was calling himself the "Greatest of All Time" (or G.O.A.T.), while aiming a dig at Lionel Messi, who had some pictures taken while holding a actual goat in his arms.

Speaking about the team's chances to make it to the next round, CR7 admitted that the thought of losing this game crossed his mind.

"I'm truly happy. We needed to win this game, because a loss would have meant being eliminated from the tournament. We're almost through to the next round, now we have to wait and see what the competition holds in store for us," the player added.
