Chelsea and Liverpool engaged in one of the craziest transfer window ever as an incredible amount of money was splashed on new recruits.
The January Transfer window which ended yesterday brought yet another moment of madness in the transfer value. Like what Sir Alex Ferguson said, there is no value in the transfer market.

In a few dramatic hours of the transfer window, Chelsea, Liverpool and a few other clubs were at their level best in signing players. There were a lot of surprises but the best of the lot was the fact that Manchester City was quiet on the last day.

As Chelsea snapped up Fernando Torres for 50 million and Liverpool replacing Torres with the 35 million signing of Andy Carroll, there is a new look to the 10 most Expensive transfer deals in the history of football.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo ( Manchester United to Real Madrid) – 80 million Pounds

After two years full of speculation relating Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, the Los Merengues finally announced on 26 June 2009 that it had agreed to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for a world record transfer fee of 80 million Euros. This transfer was the stimulator towards more vigorous spending among clubs in the transfer market.



2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic ( FC Internazionale to FC Barcelona ) – 60.7 million Euros

After a summer full of speculation, Barcelona finally confirmed that it has agreed to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in exchange of Samuel E’to and a fee, the total cost estimated to be at an astounding 60.7 million Euros. But after seeing his relationship with Barcelona manager, Josep Guardiola deteriorate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left Nou Camp to play in the Serie A again with AC Milan.



3. Kaka ( AC Milan to Real Madrid ) – 56 million Euros

This transfer deal had been speculated for a lengthy period of time prior to the deal and Kaka even nearly moved to Manchester City for a fantastic 100 million Euros fee but the move was rejected by Kaka himself. However, Real Madrid announced on June 8 2009 that they have reached an agreement to sign the Brazilian playmaker from San Siro for 56 million Euros.



4. Fernando Torres ( Liverpool to Chelsea ) – 50 million Euros

In one of the most dramatic transfer window ever, Chelsea captured their long time target, Fernando Torres for an equally dramatic fee of 50 million Euros. Fernando arrived at Anfield from Athletico Madrid in 2007 and has since found life hard to come by at Liverpool by their poor slump and decided in requesting a transfer away from the club. The request was rejected but Chelsea came with a gigantic fee that forced Liverpool into agreeing with the deal.




5. Zinedine Zidane ( Juventus to Real Madrid ) – 45.6 million Euros

After rising to fame at Juventus, Zinedine ‘the maestro’ Zidane signed for Real Madrid in a record breaking transfer fee of 45.6 million Euros, a record that has already been broken by Cristiano Ronaldo. Even until now, many regard this transfer deal as the most valuable one as Zinedine Zidane is well better that the others at the top of the list.




6. Luis Figo (FC Barcelona to Real Madrid ) – 37 million Euros

After establishing himself as a fan favorite at the Nou Camp, Luis Figo risked the wrath of the Barcelona faithful by moving to close rivals Real Madrid. Figo’s arrival signaled the beginning of the Galactico era under Florentino Perez.




7. Hernan Crespo ( Parma to Lazio ) – 35.5 million Euros

After inspiring Parma’s UEFA Cup victory, Hernan Crespo then moved to Lazio for a large amount of fee and he repayed their faith with 26 goals in his first season. The total deal was said to be 35.5 million Euros, with Lazio paying 16 million and exchanging Matías Almeyda and Sérgio Conceição




8. Andy Carroll ( Newcastle United to Liverpool FC ) – 35 million Euros

After agreeing to let Fernando Torres leave for Stamford Bridge, Liverpool acted out quickly in bringing in a replacement by signing flamboyant striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle for a fee of 35 million. Prior to this deal, Tottenham Hotspurs had a bid rejected for Carroll with the Magpies insisting that their star man is not for sale. However, they were forced to accept the transfer bid from Liverpool as Andy Carroll has also submitted a transfer request. Despite that, there is speculation that Carroll was forced to submit a transfer request.




9. David Villa ( Valencia to FC Barcelona ) – 34.2 million Euros

There was speculation regarding David Villa’s departure from Mestalla due to Valencia’s financial crisis long before Barcelona agreed a deal. He was constantly being linked with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, Barcelona struck a deal in bringing in David Villa, a move which effectively ended Ibrahimovic’s hopes of revitalizing his Barcelona career.




10. Gianluigi Buffon (Parma to Juventus ) – 32.6 million Euros

A man described by Pele as one of the best goalkeepers in the history, Gianluigi Buffon was transferred to Juventus from Parma for a massive amount of 32.6 million in the summer of 2001. It was rumored that he nearly joined AS Roma but he later denied that rumor.
