Today marks a historic day for football in North America, as the United 2026 bid has been elected to host the FIFA World Cup in eight years time.
The North American bid beat Morocco for the right to host the competition by a wider margin than expected. CONCACAF's bid earned 134 votes, while Morocco's bid gathered only 65.
This will be a historic moment for football in North America, since this will be the first time in which three countries host the competition. Canada will host it for the first time, the United States will do so for a second time, and Mexico will make history as the only country to host the competition -or part of it- in three different occasions.
