Match Preview:

Liverpool is on the brink of securing a UEFA Champions League final date with Real Madrid and will seek to defend a three-goal advantage when they are hosted by AS Roma on Wednesday. The Reds orchestrated a complete massacre when the Italians came to Anfield last week and almost ran away with a five-goal advantage but were denied the bounty harvest after Roma struck twice in the late minutes.

The feat, in turn, gave the Giallorossi a glimmer of hope to instigate another comeback just as they did against Barcelona in the quarter-final. Eusebio Di Francesco’s men enter the upcoming clash on the back of a 4-1 home win against Chievo Verona. A replica of Sunday's 4-1 home triumph over their Serie A counterparts would be sufficient to secure qualification at the expense of Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s men, on the other hand, played out a rare goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Nevertheless, that would not necessarily affect the mentality of the Reds who currently boast one of the best-attacking fronts in European football.

In that department is the free-scoring Mohamed Salah who returns to his former stomping grounds in Italy for the first time since joining the Merseysiders last summer. The 25-year old Egyptian has scored 43 goals in all competitions this season and will be aiming to top up his 10 goals in the Champions League, coming against his former side. The former Roma man scored twice in last week's clash.

The upcoming encounter promises to be a feisty one both on and off the field of play although both clubs have advised their respective fans go comport themselves following a bust-up last week which resulted in one Liverpool fan battling for his life. All things being equal, an interesting encounter awaits hungry football eyes inside the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening.
