The Liverpool ace won another individual award for his remarkable season, but only after narrowly edging out the Belgian ace.

Mohamed Salah’s season just got better, as the Liverpool striker won another award for his remarkable season. After several Player of the Month prized and being named PFA’s Player of the Year, the Egyptian has now been named Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year for the 2017/18 campaign.

The Egyptian as was the expected favorite for this accolade but faced stiff competition in the form of Kevin de Bruyne. The Man City midfielder has also enjoyed a tremendous season and thus came close to beating the former Roma attacker.

400 FWA members took to the ballot to choose their winner, with Salah winning by the skin of his teeth. Of the 400 votes, the Reds ace earned only 20 more votes than his Belgian rival, according to Liverpool’s official website. Together, the two earned over 90 percent of the votes, with Harry Kane finishing in a distant third.

Nonetheless, that was enough to see the Anfield star become the first African to win this prize. He is the latest Liverpool player to win this award, joining the likes of Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes, Ian Rush, Steven Gerrard, and Luis Suarez.

Many can agree that the 25-year-old deserves this recognition. He leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 31 goals and is likely to guide the Merseyside giant into the Champions League final after netting 11 in 13 games. Only Wednesday's second-leg tie with Roma stands in their way.
