Jose Mourinho has had his say on the demise of managerial longevity in modern-day football.

Following Arsene Wenger’s recent announcement of his imminent departure from Arsenal, Jose Mourinho now remains as one of the most experienced figures in the English Premier League. The Portuguese manager enjoyed two separate coaching stints with Chelsea before joining Manchester United last season.

During his second spell with The Blues, a poor title defense campaign after winning the trophy back in 2014/2015 season facilitated his sack from the London Club. Relatively, the pressure associated with Arsene Wenger’s inability to steer Arsenal to the Premier League title as well as the UEFA Champions League has forced him to bring an end to a 22-year-old coaching career.

Addressing reporters ahead of Manchester United’s league game with the Gunners on Sunday, Jose Mourinho fancied the idea of being in charge of the Red Devils for as long as possible, just as Wenger did at Arsenal. However, he pinpointed some factors which he believes discourages managers from entertaining the idea of a long stay at one club in these modern days.

"I would see myself doing it [staying for long] but the new concept of media, social media, the pundit industry, the way people can express and influence opinion, it is too much pressure - not just for the manager - but also for the club," Mourinho declared.

"It is impossible for someone to resist for a long time, especially without any kind of success.

"To stay a manager, to have four or five years to try to get a trophy and to improve the team, I don't think you allow that anymore."

Jose Mourinho's future at Manchester United came into question a while back but it does not seem like the man contracted to Manchester United till 2020 will be leaving the 20-time English champions anytime soon.
