The Spanish midfielder announced on Friday that he will be leaving Camp Nou at the end of this season.

Andres Iniesta’s decision to leave Barcelona at the end of this campaign remains big news in the world of football. The Spanish icon announced on Friday that this will be his final season at Camp Nou, calling an end to illustrious career with the club that spanned 16 seasons.

As a result, it came as little surprise to see the World Cup winner be lavished with praise by fans, managers, and fellow players. Many took to Twitter to hail the maestro as the greatest and most talented Spanish player to grace the beautiful game.

And now the 33-year-old got a similarly touching tribute from Lionel Messi, a man who has been his team-mate throughout the years in the Blaugrana’s most successful years. The Argentine took to Instagram to bid a warm farewell to the “phenomenon” that is Iniesta.

"Andres, thank you for all these years of football. It was a privilege to enjoy this sport by your side and spend so many unforgettable moments together," Leo wrote.

"I wish you all of the best in this new sporting adventure for you and in your life.

"You are a phenomenon, both on and off the field."

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was a surprise absentee from the playmaker’s press conference. The entire Catalan squad was present to hear the tearful Spaniard announce his upcoming exit except for Messi and Suarez.

The league leader stated that the two South American stars were no-shows due to private affairs they had to deal with. La Pulga reportedly was not able to attend the press conference as he had an appointment to renew his and his family's passports that same day.

As for Andres, the beloved Barcelona captain is likely to join the Chinese Super League. The midfielder ruled out joining another European club as he did not want to face the Catalan giant, all but paving the way for his move to the Far East.
