The Bayern Munich defender picked up a season-ending injury against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

On Wednesday, Bayern Munich’s night inside the Allianz Arena took a rough turn after star defender Jerome Boateng picked up a thigh injury which subsequently ruled him out for the rest of this season. The Bavarians, in turn, fell to Real Madrid via a 2-1 home defeat and are currently gearing up to make amends in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was initially believed that the extent of Boateng’s injury will rule him out of the upcoming World Cup. However, manager of the 29-year-old, Jupp Heynckes, has rebuffed speculations which suggested that the player will not be able to represent Germany at Russia 2018.

"Jerome I spoke to just now," Heynckes declared according to Goal.

"He is walking normally. I don't know why you guys said he won't be able to play in the World Cup.

"You all seem to be physicians. There's no problem [with playing at the World Cup] whatsoever. He will definitely be part of the World Cup and will even be able to train beforehand.

Germany will kick start their World Cup campaign in Russia against Mexico at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 17, 2018. Per the words of the Heynckes, Jerome Boateng should be there to help Die Mannschaft defend the title he won with them in Brazil back in 2014.
