The Basque boss took the opportunity to thank fans for their support, even if he wasn't able to win the UEFA Champions League with them.

Unai Emery's exit from PSG should come as no surprise to anyone after his failure to deliver the UEFA Champions League title in two years, especially after the investment made by his bosses last summer.

The Basque boss was able to win almost every domestic title, but failed to lead Les Parisiens to European glory, crashing out in the Round of 16 of the most relevant club competition in the world in two straight seasons.

Furthermore, his poor handling of controversies involving Neymar and Edinson Cavani played a key role in his resignation, which he announced today.

"I've just told the players that, after a meeting with our president and Antero Henrique (PSG's sporting director), we've decided that I will not return to coach the team next season. I want to thank the players, the president, Antero and the fans for their support. It's the best thing for all of us," Emery said.

Emery referred to the historical match against Barcelona, where PSG dropped a four-goal lead in the second leg against Los Blaugranas.

"That was a hard moment to live, especially after our great first leg. We went over there and lost, with some harsh decisions by the ref," the coach added.

One of the talking points this season had to do with Emery's relationship with Neymar, who disrupted the team's locker room with all the perks he was handed by PSG's execs. Emery had something to say about the Brazilian ace, who hasn't been seen in Paris for over two months.

"A change as big as this one is not easy. I just wish that Neymar continues to live his life as naturally as he does," Emery stated.

The former Sevilla boss will coach PSG for four more games.
