The Manchester United winger has extended his gratitude to the outgoing Arsenal manager.

It has been an emotional week - to some extent - for fans of English football since the news of Arsene Wenger’s imminent retirement made rounds in the media. The 68-years-old French manager will bring to an end a colossal 22-year career at Arsenal come the end of this season.

Being the oldest figure in the league following the departure of Sir. Alex Ferguson, the news has a sentimental touch to it although it seemed inevitable at a point. As a result, tributes and farewell messages have been pouring in from fans and players on the various social media platforms.

The latest addition to the long list is Alexis Sanchez who joined Wenger at Arsenal in 2014 before moving to Manchester United in this winter’s transfer window. Speaking to reporters after Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final triumph over Tottenham, the Chilean international expressed his admiration for his former boss while thanking him for the role he played in his career.

"I texted him yesterday to wish him the best. I could not say anything on social media but I texted him and he replied to me saying thank you to me.

"It's sad because he is a historical football legend, I always said he is a gentleman and a football master, he taught me a lot about respect and to be professional.

"I'm just so thankful to him.''

Alexis Sanchez put in one of his best performances as a Red Devil to ensure that his side fought back to secure a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final encounter. The 29-year-old forward scored the game’s equalizer and was subsequently awarded the Man of The Match for his immense contribution.
