The nominees for the PFA Young Player of the Year prize were also revealed, but it drew some criticism.

The nominees for the Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year award have finally been announced. Unsurprisingly, Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne lead the list of names fighting for this prize.

There has been huge debate this season as to who deserves to be named Player of the Year in the Premier League this season. Liverpool’s Egyptian ace is the favorite thanks to his 29 goals this term so far, but Man City’s Belgian playmaker has a solid claim.

De Bruyne is only one of three Citizens aces to make the cut in what has been a remarkable season for the league leader. Leroy Sane and David Silva are Guardiola’s two other men to make this list.

David de Gea also gets a nod in the six-man shortlist. The Spaniard’s form in between the sticks has been crucial to Man United this season, with many hailing him as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Harry Kane has also earned a deserved nomination. He is only behind Salah in the top scorers’ chart and has been integral to Tottenham’s top-four push this campaign.

The Three Lions forward was also nominated for the PFA’s Young Player of the Year prize, which also featured six nominees in total. The Spurs forward was joined by Ederson, both of which are 24, drawing some criticism over their eligibility for this award.

Man United’s Marcus Rashford (20) and Man City duo Leroy Sane (22) and Raheem Sterling (23) were the remaining top-flight players to make the list. 17-year-old Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon was also shortlisted, becoming the first non-Premier League player to be nominated since the award began in 1983.

The winners of both awards will be revealed on 22 April. As for now, the players will focus on their upcoming matches this weekend, with Tottenham vs Man City being the standout fixture.
