However, the Juventus icon stopped short of calling the Portuguese ace the best player in history.

On Wednesday, Juventus will head to the Bernabeu for possibly their final Champions League game this season. However, having watched Roma’s amazing comeback against Barcelona, Allegri’s men might have received inspiration to make history.

Regardless, the odds are stacked against them. Having lost 3-0 in Turin in the first leg, the Bianconeri will not have the home advantage.

Speaking ahead of the second leg, Gianluigi Buffon refused to rule out a comeback. In fact, the captain hinted that overturning the deficit is a possibility.

"We'll have the same mentality as always with the objective of obtaining the best result possible," the goalkeeper said, as per Marca.

"It is a match which should be honoured, both because of the rival and the setting.

"I remember some incredible comebacks and one must try the impossible to dream."

Unfortunately, for that to happen, Juventus must stop Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has been excellent in 2018 and is breaking Champions League records with his goalscoring form.

It was the five-time Ballon d’Or winner who scored two of the three goals in the first leg, one being that unforgettable overhead goal. While Ronaldo might be the man to send the Old Lady packing, that did not stop Buffon from lavishing the 33-year-old with praise.

The Italian shot-stopper, who has come face to face with many iconic footballers, admitted that he has not seen a more decisive player than Ronaldo. However, the custodian stopped short of calling the former Man United ace the greatest player in history.

"I don't know if he is the most complete player, because I've faced some great footballers in all these years, but right now for his position he is the most decisive," Buffon added.

"I have no doubts about that.

"He is impressive.

"He is consistent and always scores goals."

The Juventus legend also admitted that Wednesday’s game could be his final match in this competition, should the Serie A leader be eliminated. With retirement right around the corner, the 40-year-old insisted that he is not depressed to bid farewell to this competition in this manner.
